Brad Taylor Biography
New York Times bestselling author Brad Taylor was born in 1965 in Okinawa, Japan. In his early childhood, his family moved to the US, where Brad got to grow up in rural Texas on a 40-acre ranch.
He attended the University of Texas, and after graduation, he did his postgraduate at the Naval Postgraduate School from where he got a Master’s of Science in Defense Analysis, with a major in Irregular Warfare.
Next, he joined the Army as a second lieutenant. He served in the army for the next 21, during which time he held different positions in the infantry and Special Forces. For eight years he was in the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment (Delta Force), commanding one squadron and several troops. He was positioned in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other locations.
When he retired, he did so as a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel. Next, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. The Brad Taylor novels became a reality in 2011 when the author published One Rough Man, the first in what would become the Pike Logan books. The book became an instant success, which pushed the author to work on fleshing out the series and his Pike Logan character.
Initially, he only wanted to write a book to tick it off his bucket list. As a serious reader of crime and thriller novels, Brad Taylor wanted to finally write one book in the genre. So while working a regular 9-5 job professor of military science at The Citadel, he had some time on his hands and began writing his novel. Once he wrote it, he sold it, and then he was asked to write more books about the – by now – popular Pike Logan. And the rest is history.
So far, over 2 million copies of his books have been sold, and the author is currently working on his next Pike Logan novel in Charleston, South Carolina, where he is living with his wife and two daughters.
When not writing, Brad Taylor is working as a consultant for various agencies on asymmetric threats security. In addition, Brad is also speaking on various television networks like CNN, Fox, and NBC, on military topics such as asymmetric warfare. Even though he is a relative newcomer to the military thriller genre, Brad Taylor’s books have already been read by millions of people all over the world. The author wanted to write books for a long time, but his military career stopped him from actually sitting down and writing. Once he retired, he had time to devote himself to his next goal.
Due to his vast knowledge of the military field, his Pike Logan novels are infused with realism, and often the readers fall into the trap that they’re not reading fiction at all, which is the sign of a great author. He also has several short stories in his Pike Logan book series.
Who is Pike Logan?
Nephilim Pike Logan is the main agent and one of the founders of a top-secret and clandestine military task force, controlled by the National Security Council, which goes around the world destroying the evil plans of terrorists. Pike Logan was created from a mesh of people the author has served with, all balled into one patriot hero. However, Brad Taylor often mentions that Pike Logan is not him.
Still, as the author actually came face to face with many enemies during his years he served, he could mold many of his characters, good or bad, based on those, along with others who helped or hurt people in his own country.
Pike joined the military, and right away he volunteered to join the Rangers. Next, he went to Okinawa and joined the Special Forces, following which he joined the Delta Force, where he remained for over a decade. During his time there, he met someone, fell in love, married, had a daughter, and during one of the Taskforce missions, a terrible fate fell upon his family. This changed the course of Pike’s entire life thereafter. He stopped wanting to live, and throughout the course of the rest of the books, we find Pike starting to live again and finding new purpose in life, even that is to punish everyone who is evil.
The actual Taskforce was created through a Presidential decree that allows the team to deal with the most urgent and immediate threats to the U.S. They act outside of the law, and their existence is a well-kept secret.
After the first book in the series, Pike returns, but not quite fully to join the Taskforce. Instead, he creates his new company with a young woman, Jennifer Cahill, who once saved his life and then he returned the favor. Now, Pike Logan and his girlfriend Jennifer Cahill work with the Taskforce while also taking on at times other outside assignments.

And yet, here he is in Ghosts of War working on the case in Poland. I’m confused….what happened? Yes, I get involved in the characters; they are very real people!!

Just finished ONE ROUGH MAN. I am hooked and cannot wait to read ALL of them in order. Love Jennifer and their interaction. How did you pick Nephilim as a name? My very good friend is fascinated by the history of the Nephilim. She’s like a dog with a bone, digging and researching. I love that Pike is a complication of several real people. Good to know there are some rough men out there.

I love them. You don’t have to read his biography to know he’s been out in the world. You can read his books with great characters to know he’s been there.
